The challenges faced by adolescent girls in India is aptly described in Chandana Khan’s book, published posthumously by Virasat Art Publication. The work was originally a 1993 Masters dissertation at University of East Anglia which makes it an interesting read from many angles. Apart from being of historical value, a record of the Decade of the Girl Child, it is greatly well-researched and written in lucid prose. However, one cannot overlook the fact that the dissertation was written 31 years ago, and the present scenario needs to be acknowledged.
